Patrick Daugherty, Professor of Chemical Engineering, and Biomolecular Science and Engineering at UCSB, received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota, and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1999. Prof. Daugherty was a Virology-Oncology Senior Research Fellow at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center from 1999-2001, and joined the faculty at UC-Santa Barbara in 2001. Prof. Daugherty is a leading expert in protein and peptide engineering using bacterial display technology. He is the recipient of a National Science Foundation Career Award (2005), and the Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award (2006).

Mr. Gelles has been in the investment business since 1958. He was with the Del Webb Corporation in Phoenix as Vice President of Finance. He was in the investment banking industry for ten years with Goldman Sachs as Vice President in Los Angeles, a partner at White Weld and a Managing Director at Dean Witter. After retiring from investment banking, Harry taught an investment course at UCLA graduate school. He then joined Russell Reynolds Associates as a Managing Director, managing the LA office. Harry graduated from Harvard College and Harvard Graduate School of Management. He has served on a number of charitable and business boards including the National M.S. Society, Lobero Theater, Transition House, Financial Corporation of Santa Barbara, Trico Industries, Chelsea Management Company, Crest Steel Corporation, Clark Metals and AmeriVest Properties Inc.

Mr. Gluck is a former managing partner (CEO) of McKinsey & Company, Inc., the international management consulting firm (1967-1995; Managing Director: 1988-1994). Fred retired from McKinsey in 1995 and joined the Bechtel Group where he served as Vice-Chairman and Director. Fred retired from Bechtel in July 1998 and rejoined McKinsey and Company as a consultant until retiring again in July 2003. Mr. Gluck’s business board memberships include AMGEN (Thousand Oaks, CA) [NASDAQ], and HCA (Nashville, TN) [NYSE] where he is Presiding Director. Mr. Gluck also serves as Director of a number of eleemosynary organizations, including the Cottage Health System (Santa Barbara, CA), the Foundation Board of the University of California, Santa Barbara, the Kavli Institute of Theoretical Physics and The New York Presbyterian Hospital (Emeritus).

Linda’s long and successful business career spans banking, corporate finance, public relations and communications. In 1984 Linda became President, CEO and Director of the Fairfax Savings Bank as well as Bankstar, N.A. until the two banks merged in 1990. She was also co-founder of the Virginia Small Business Financing Authority in 1984 and served a 4-Year Gubernatorial Appointment as First Chair of the Board of Directors. She joined Ryan-McGinn, a Virginia-based public relations firm as a member of senior management. In 1995 she was recruited by The Bethlehem Corporation as Vice-President of Administration where she had full responsibility for corporate administration, mergers and acquisitions, investor relations, SEC filings, capital financing and corporate debt management. Since retiring in 1997, Linda has been involved in developing local real estate in Santa Barbara and in a variety of eleemosynary activities including membership on the boards of Visiting Nurses and Hospice Care of Santa Barbara, Camarata Pacifica and Lotusland.

Prof. Heeger is widely known for his pioneering research in and the co-founding of the field of semiconducting and metallic polymers. He has more than 700 publications in scientific journals and holds approximately 50 patents. He founded UNIAX Corporation in 1990 which was acquired by DuPont in 2000. Prof. Heeger serves on the Board of Directors of Konarka Technologies Inc. and he is a Venture Partner in NGen Partners, a materials-based venture capital firm in Santa Barbara. He is Chairman of Diode Solutions Inc. in Santa Barbara, a new start-up that is focusing on opportunities for printing “plastic electronics”. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including most notably the Nobel Prize in Chemistry (2000). He is a member of the National Academy of Science (USA), and the National Academy of Engineering (USA).

Dr. Stagliano has been serving as CytomX Therapeutics’ Chief Executive Officer since February of 2008. Prior to her current role, Nancy served as the COO of CytomX, LLC for 1 year. Nancy received her B.S. in Electrical Engineering and her M.S. in Biomedical Engineering, both from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. Driven by an interest in biological systems, Nancy then obtained her Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Miami in Miami, FL. After three years as an independently-funded researcher at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, she joined the Cambridge, MA biotechnology industry, where she worked for almost 8 years at Millennium Pharmaceuticals and consulted to several local start-ups. Nancy’s career spans all aspects of biotech, from discovery research and strategy to global medical affairs to corporate communications.

Dr. West received a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Missouri, an M.S. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Toledo, and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Washington. As early as 1980 he used protein engineering to understand structural aspects of protein secretion, to develop molecular models for modulation of Na+ channel biology, and most recently to develop novel protein based biotherapeutics. Jim’s work in Seattle’s biotechnology community over the last 15 years has focused on therapeutic development including protein discovery and engineering, biological characterization, therapeutic validation, and included IND filings. Dr. West holds more than 15 patents covering the discovery and engineering of biologically active proteins.
